A baby's first year is built from thousands of small, repeated moments. We make each one calm, attuned, and unhurried, so your child learns the world is a place that responds.

Both love and limits, every day.

Mindful infant care

What makes infant care here different.

Most infant daycare promises love and safety, and we do too. What sets a mindful infant room apart is the how: a primary caregiver who knows your baby, RIE-informed care that treats even a six-week-old as a whole person, and adults who stay calm and present so your baby's nervous system can settle. You will feel the difference at drop-off.

Pillar I

Present

Mindfulness begins at six weeks.

For a baby, mindfulness lives in the adults. Our educators slow down, make eye contact, and respond rather than react. We narrate care before it happens, keep the room quiet and unhurried, and stay regulated beside your baby through every feeling. That steady presence is the earliest foundation of self-regulation.

Rooted in RIE

Resources for Infant Educarers.

Magda Gerber's RIE approach guides every moment: we wait and observe before we intervene, we let babies move freely on the floor instead of propping them, and we treat diapering and feeding as one-on-one connection, not tasks to rush. Your baby is seen as competent from day one, and learns to trust their own exploration.

Pillar III

A primary caregiver

Gentle attachment, one trusted adult.

Your baby is paired with a primary caregiver who learns their cues, holds their bottle, and knows the difference between their tired cry and their hungry one. Secure attachment in the first year predicts emotional health for life. We protect it by keeping the same loving adults close, day after day, in a low-ratio room.

Infant care near the Capitol

Lunch with your baby, then make your 1:30 hearing.

Growing Mindfully is the only mindfulness-based infant daycare within a five-minute walk of the California State Capitol corridor. When your baby is this small, being minutes away matters as much as the philosophy. If you work at any of the four buildings below, you qualify for our VIP Rate: the deepest tuition discount we offer, negotiated as part of our agreement with the State of California and these buildings.

VIP Rate
The VIP Rate

Our most discounted tuition tier, exclusive to families employed at the four state buildings within our walking radius. It applies to infant care too: every schedule, every week, lower than our standard or state-employee rates.

VIP Rate verification at enrollment via state-issued ID or pay stub. State employees who work elsewhere still receive our State Employee Rate, also discounted from standard tuition. See every infant rate on our rates page.

By the numbers

The things that matter most when it's your baby.

1:3
The infant ratio we strive for.
About one educator for every three babies in our infant room, tighter than California's 1:4 minimum. It is a target we reach for, not a promise we can keep every single day. On the days we hold it, it means more held hands, more eye contact, and more of your baby genuinely seen and responded to.

We welcome babies from six weeks of age.
One school, one family, from six weeks all the way to Kindergarten. No starting over with a new place and new teachers when your baby becomes a toddler, and siblings grow up together down the same hallway. We are currently enrolling infants 6 weeks to 7 months for fall 2026.
11
Hours of care a day, 7 to 6.
Open 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, built around a real workday. A nut-free, state-licensed facility with safe sleep, and the whole day logged in the Brightwheel app so you can follow along in real time.
Sleep · feeding · diapering

Safe, predictable rhythms, one baby at a time.

We follow your baby, not a clock. Each of these is care, not just routine, and each is narrated, gentle, and logged for you in Brightwheel.

Safe sleep

Naps on their own schedule

Babies sleep alone, on their backs, in their own crib in a quiet, dim space, following safe-sleep practice. We protect the morning and afternoon sleep windows because sleep is when babies consolidate everything they have learned. Protecting nap is protecting development.

Responsive feeding

Bottles and solids on cue

Feeding follows each baby's hunger cues with held bottles and the milk or formula you provide, plus spoon-fed solids once your baby is ready. We never force a room-wide schedule; reading and responding to internal signals is where self-regulation begins.

Gentle diapering

Connection, not a task

Diapering is unhurried and narrated ("I'm going to lift you now"), treated as one-on-one connection time. It is RIE care in its smallest, most frequent form: your baby learns that even routine moments are respectful and predictable.

Questions parents of infants ask

Answers, before you have to ask.

What ages can start in the infant room at Growing Mindfully?

Our infant program welcomes babies from 6 weeks of age, and they grow with us through roughly 18 months before moving into our toddler rooms. We are currently enrolling infants 6 weeks to 7 months for fall 2026; older infants and all other ages join our waitlist as openings appear.

Do you offer infant daycare near me in Downtown Sacramento?

Yes. Growing Mindfully is an infant daycare on the top floor of 750 N Street in Downtown Sacramento, a five-minute walk from the California State Capitol. Families searching for infant care in Downtown Sacramento, baby daycare in Sacramento, or infant daycare near me, including state employees at the nearby office buildings, are exactly who our infant room is built for.

What is RIE infant care, and how do you practice it?

RIE stands for Resources for Infant Educarers, the approach developed by Magda Gerber. In practice it means we move at your baby's pace: we wait and observe before we intervene, we narrate care before it happens ("I'm going to pick you up now"), we let babies move freely on the floor rather than propping them, and we treat even the youngest infant as a competent, whole person. It is the foundation of how our educators hold every diaper change, every feeding, and every quiet moment of the day.

What are your infant child-to-teacher ratios?

In our infant room we strive for roughly one educator for every three babies (1:3), tighter than California's 1:4 state minimum. It is a target we reach for rather than a promise we can keep every single day, and on the days we hold it, it means more held hands, more eye contact, and more of your baby genuinely seen and responded to.

How do you handle safe sleep, feeding, and diapering for infants?

Each baby follows their own rhythm, not a room-wide schedule. Infants sleep alone, on their backs, in their own crib in a quiet, dim space, following safe-sleep practice. Feeding follows your baby's hunger cues with held bottles and your provided milk or formula, plus spoon-fed solids once your baby is ready. Diapering is unhurried and narrated, treated as one-on-one connection time rather than a task to rush through. Every feed, nap, and change is logged in the Brightwheel app so you can follow your baby's day in real time.

How does mindfulness work with a baby this young?

For an infant, mindfulness is not meditation. It lives in the adults. It is the calm, attuned presence of an educator who slows down, makes eye contact, and responds rather than reacts. We keep the room quiet and unhurried, we name what is happening before we do it, and we let babies feel their feelings while we stay regulated beside them. That steady, present caregiving is the earliest form of the mindfulness we carry all the way through to age six.

Are you a licensed infant daycare?

Yes. Growing Mindfully is licensed by the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division, and complies with California's childcare-licensing standards. Our facility is nut-free, and two organic, additive-free snacks are included daily for children eating solids.

How do I enroll my infant for fall 2026?

Start by applying to our waitlist through our online portal; it takes about five minutes. We are currently enrolling infants 6 weeks to 7 months for fall 2026. When a place opens for your baby, we secure the space with a signed agreement and deposit and plan a gentle first day together. State employees can also see their exact weekly rate, including the VIP Rate, on our rates page before they apply.

What is the VIP Rate, and do infant families qualify?

The VIP Rate is our deepest tuition discount, written into our agreement with the State of California and four neighbor buildings: 751 N Street (Department of General Services), 1215 O Street (Resources Building), 715 P Street (CalPERS), and 1416 9th Street (Resources Agency). Any state employee who works at one of these four buildings qualifies, including infant families, and verification at enrollment is via state-issued ID or pay stub. State employees who work elsewhere still receive our discounted State Employee Rate.
